Question: which one of these two statements feels most true to you?
- I’m stuck with myself.
- I’ll always be there for myself, my own BFF.
I know, you get it. It’s about attitude, if you think the glass is half full or half empty, whatever.
So which one is it? Honestly, how do you feel about yourself?
For me, I guess it depends on which day you ask.
Sometimes I have days when I feel less like a superhero and more like curling up in my bed with a big bucket of ice cream. That’s okay. It’s important to realize that everyone has times when they just can’t.
Self-love is having
Self-love can mean different things at different times in your life. It’s about learning to recognize what you need and acting accordingly.
Above all, self-love is a process. It takes time, it takes work, and it isn’t easy for anyone.
How to be your own BFF
1. I am number one
Like they always tell you, if the plane is crashing, put the mask on yourself before helping others. If you don’t save yourself first, you can’t save anyone else, either.
It’s simple. It’s never selfish to put yourself first, it’s just a necessary fact of life.
2. Take care like you would of a friend
Sometimes the best way to change what you believe/how you feel is just by doing. So start to act like you love yourself. Meaning, choose healthy habits most of the time – also, stop being so mean to yourself.
Think of yourself as your own BFF. You’re the one responsible for taking care of that wonderful person that you are.
3. Try, try, and try again
Had a bad day? That’s okay. Maybe tomorrow will be better.
Everyone is born into different circumstances, which isn’t fair, but everyone can always improve. To love yourself is to never give up. You can always try again, and you never know when the next breakthrough is coming – tomorrow might be the best day ever.
4. Baby, I’m worth it
Base your self-worth on yourself. Not on your job, relationship, looks or money – those can all be washed away the blink of an eye.
When you start to think that you are worthy for YOU, the unique, special, irreplaceable little part of the universe that you are, you feel at least a little bit happy every day. Not just on good hair days.
5. Have some integrity
Establish values you truly believe in and live like you mean it, to the best you can. Be stronger than your excuses. If you think it’s really important to exercise, why aren’t you doing it?
People with self-love are the happiest, kindest, strongest and most successful ones. Be one of them.
