“Never, ever underestimate the importance of having fun.”
This ain’t the first time I’m writing about this topic.
I think it’s so important to feel good at work because we spend such huge parts of our lives there. We might as well be happy while we’re there.
Work doesn’t have to be so damn hard all the time.
Here are my top tips to have the best day ever at work.
1. Tell a joke/watch a funny video
Laughter is the easiest way to brighten up a day. I read somewhere that watching funny videos actually increases work productivity significantly, so don’t feel guilty about that Instagram break.
Even better, make a habit of trying to make other people laugh.
2. Wear your best outfit
Killer look = instant confidence. When you look good, you feel good.
Even if you have to wear some kind of uniform at work, there’s always a way to make it your own. Just having a cute hairdo can make a difference to your day.
3. Bring donuts
One thing will always be true: donuts make people happy. So does cinnamon rolls. And fruit, if you wanna go for healthy. While you’re at it, make everyone coffee for that caffeine kick.
People aren’t so complicated after all. Free food will put a smile on anyone’s face, and they will be forever grateful to you.
If you don’t believe me, try it.
4. Make plans for the weekend
Having things to look forward to is a great way to kill stress.
Make awesome plans with friends, or just dream about sleeping in, then having breakfast in bed. The weekend is never that far away.
5. Get to know your colleagues
You might talk to them every day, but how well do you really know the people you work with?
If you just make the effort, you can have the most amazing random conversations even with the most unlikely people, the types you would never hang out with.
Finding common ground with anyone is an invaluable skill. It will not only make you more successful, it will make life more fun.
6. Finish that one annoying task
I’m sure everyone knows the feeling: that one task you just can’t seem to get done, that keeps stressing you out, maybe even in your free time.
I have sometimes managed to put things off for months. When I finally kicked myself in the butt or asked for help, I felt silly for not getting it done earlier as nothing is as hard as it seems.
7. Don’t take it so seriously
When all else fails, change your attitude. It’s just work, and there are bigger issues in the world than whether you had a good day or not. At least you have a job, which isn’t the case for everyone.
The student life
1. Stay home if you can
Do you even know what a luxury it is to be able to stay home? With the fridge close by and the bed as your study area, no one judging you when you eat a bunch of chocolate to fuel your essay writing…
You won’t be able to do this forever, so enjoy it while it lasts.
2. Wear comfy clothes
If you have to leave the house, at least do it feeling comfortable. Go ahead, wear sweats. Go to the library with dirty hair. No one cares. No one.
3. Please don’t stop the music
With the right music (the kind you love) you become a student superhero. It makes time fly like nothing else and you might even find that you are enjoying yourself.
