I thought October was going to be the best month ever, but life got in the way.
It was a rollercoaster. I’ve had fun, with shopping, partying and two trips to Stockholm, but I’ve also had my fair share of anxiety and stress (yup, there’s a difference between the two).
Stress is feeling my pulse rise when I think of all the things I have to do. It’s waking up at 3 am for no apparent reason, and not being able to go back to sleep until 5 am.
Anxiety is harder to explain. I don’t understand it, maybe because it comes from a deeper part of me. It makes shut down and self-sabotage. All I know is that it’s an awful feeling and my instincts are screaming that I need to numb it.
One thing I’ve learned is that the best cure for anxiety is self-love. It helps a lot if I think of myself as an external person, like a best friend that I need to take care of.
This month’s highlights
All things considered, it’s been a pretty good month. I want to have fun with this post, so I’m putting together a list of this October’s standout moments.
Best activity shopping!
Favorite exercise tennis, private lessons.
Funniest fail made myself a big mug of hot chocolate with whipped cream and cinnamon on top. Turns out, it wasn’t cinnamon, it was white ground pepper! Gross.
Biggest purchase a shopping spree at Stockmann’s Hullut päivät, where I got two pairs of my favorite leggings, some other basic apparel and lots of cosmetics.
Worst part the constant rain during the first two weeks of the month.
Best restaurant The Greasy Spoon, a trendy, super popular place in Stockholm with all day brunch food. I had pancakes with bacon and maple syrup.
Cool new TV show Mindhunter on Netflix.
Biggest decision to grow out my bangs (I’ve had them for over 2 years now).
Best party Halloween (duh).
Proudest moment juggling so much at once & dealing with my anxiety.
Least proud moment the day after the Halloween party.
Most inspiring seeing del Potro play at Stockholm Open.
Biggest laugh with my brother, at something Mom said.
Best for staying in scented candles and warm socks.
Best for going out dancing to Beyoncé.
And finally, the quote that inspired me this month
“The trouble is, you think you have time.”
