In my head, I have this idea of a young woman who’s killing it. She’s my ideal version of myself, and she’s awesome at all the things that matter to me. She’s what I strive to become.
But I’m not her yet. And I really want to start seeing results.
If you’re reading this, you probably also want to crush your goals and live an amazing life. However, things don’t always go as planned. Sometimes you feel stuck, like you’re not making progress, and you’re nowhere close to being who you want to be.
In short, you’re just not that awesome yet.
Luckily, there’s usually a reason why, so if we just know it, we can fix it. In this post, I pinpoint 5 common reasons for why we’re not making process in any given area and how we can start seeing results.
1. Things take time
Success doesn’t come overnight. You really want something? You have to be patient.
Besides, life isn’t about the end result. It’s always a process, and we often take a step forward just to take two steps back. We just have to have fun with it. One day we’ll look back and be amazed at how fast it all went.
If you still feel impatient for everything that’s waiting to happen, use that as fuel to push yourself more.
2. Good vibes only
How do you feel about what you’re working on?
Are you excited, envisioning all the awesome results you’re going to get? Or do you feel stressed out, buried by things you “should do” and kind of giving up already?
Our outlook has a huge impact on the result we get in life, whether it means acing a Math test or becoming better in social situations.
3. The right kind of practice
It turns there are two ways of doing something, we’re either in the “performance zone” or the “learning zone”. In the former, we are trying our best to do something well. But in the latter, we are actively trying to improve at something and we don’t care about making mistakes. Learning is about being outside your comfort zone.
The problem is, people spend most of their time in the performing, not practicing. To get better at something, we have to practice consciously.
4. Commitment is key
When you’ve made a decision, you’re not as tempted to go off course anymore. You’re focused on what you want and nothing will stop you. This is the magic of having absolute focus.
Believe it or not, it’s not enough to have a goal. You have to really decide to go after something, to feel in your bones how much something is a priority. The best part is, after you do that, it becomes a lot easier to follow through.
5. You’re killing your own motivation
You really, and I mean seriously, need to shut up about your goals.
There is such a thing as ruining your own motivation by telling others of all the awesome stuff you’re going to achieve. When you tell them, it makes you feel good about yourself. So you become instantly less likely to actually achieve that thing – it’s psychlogy.
It’s not easy, but your best bet is to stay silent.
These are the 5 most common things you need to change to start seeing results. What are your goals? Whatever they are, if you keep going, and you’re smart about it, you CAN reach them.
